If the dominant ideology of the post-communist transition in Eastern Europe has been a steady and monotonous neoliberal articulation (at best pigmented by an internal tension between a conservative and a technocratic reading of the same paradigm), how do things stand in the opposite camp? Which is – and which should be – the framing paradigm of the counter-hegemonic opposition in post socialist Europe? The public debate will bring together two of the main contestants for the leading role in the theory (and, eventually, practice) of the progressive camp in Eastern Europe: Marxism and post colonialism.
While certainly the aim is not to pick the right side and drop the wrong one in a sort of zero sum confrontation, the idea is to put together (where possible) and compare the ‘applicability’ of these paradigms in the contemporary context of Eastern Europe.

The conference Culture and Politics of Crisis II. is part of the projects developed in Cluj within the programme Fiction, Rhetoric, Facts.
