In December 2025 came to an end a project that almost ran in parallel with the first years of the Experimental Station for Research on Art and Life. Led by tranzit.ro/Bucuresti and organised together with partners Atelier d'Architecture Autogérée (FR), Drenart (BG) and Nedeea Vâlceană Association (RO), active in the fields of culture, contemporary art, architecture, civic activism and eco-sustainable community practices, the project proposed a participatory process of building and cultural contextualisation of ecological prototypes to be used by cultural institutions. ABC operated on four sites in Romania, Bulgaria and France: Silistea Snagovului, a village in the proximity of Bucharest, near a protected area of lake and forest; Brezoi, a small town in the South-Western part of Romania, in a mountaneous area and close to an important river; Dren, a village outside of Sofia, in a hilly area; and Bagneux, in the peripheral neighourhoods of Paris.
We concluded the project with the publishing of a jointly edited volume: Rootwords – A Glossary for Living Cultural Institutions: ro.tranzit.org/file/Rootwords-_A_Glossary_for_Li.pdf
The publication includes descriptions of the project’s sites in Romania and Bulgaria, and glossary entries, in the form of text, drawings, photographs and collages, coming from the practice of the organisations involved.
