IDOLATRY - Presentation and workshop held by Ágnes Patakfalvi-Czirják
Saturday, 20 February, 2016, 11 am.

Through stories and historical anecdotes the participants in the workshop session will try to analyze the cultural and political relation to dead bodies, the objectification of symbolical and essential images, facts and discourses about glorified history and greatness. This heritage includes the saints' relics, the cultural 'saints' – the bodies of thinkers, great artists, scientists – or political leaders. The presentation will reflect to the social practices of imagining greatness: the cult of remembrance, the myths of the nation and the political struggles for expropriating the uniqueness.

The second part of the workshop will be a preparation of a Jumping Jack from pieces of chosen personalities.

Ágnes Patakfalvi-Czirják is an anthropologist, sociologist, working at the Institute of Political History, Budapest, Hungary as a visiting researcher. Her main field of interest includes nationalism, popular culture, cultural sociology in Central and Eastern Europe. She is doing her PhD at Pécs University.

>> If you are interested in participating at this event, please register by email at office.ro@tranzit.org until 19th of February.

CHOSEN GAMES, presentation by Mario Z. Nemes
Saturday, 20 February 2016, 3 pm.

Mario Z. Nemes is analyzing the metaphor of the „chosen one” in scif-fi movies and novels. In the films like (Running Man (1987), Hunger Games,(2012), Black Mirror (2011), Ender’s Game (2013)) there is always a medial constructed „staging” in the form of reality show or some kind of fictional-digital role playing. According to his thesis such forms of stagings can be interpreted in the context of political manipulation and media critics.

Márió Z. Nemes was born in 1982 in Ajka, Hungary. He is a poet and a critic, He started publishing around the turn of the millennium, since then his writings have appeared in all leading Hungarian literary reviews and magazines and he has three poetry collections published. He lives in Budapest.
