Whether you take the liberty to reject a religion or, on the contrary, to follow it, at a certain moment one will talk and decide in your name, you will be brought to account. In the Name of the Father is about people and personal histories, about how the religious environment interferes with the intimate, professional and social life, about changes, acceptances and suffering, about building up and “cultural heritage”. To talk about religion and religious identity in a moment when to be religious is identified with the public support of a controversial political agenda is an act of courage. To wrap the confessions, opinions and memories of an intense and active religious life, with the good and the bad, in a theatre show is both an occasion to assume religion as an essential dimension of private life, and a beginning of a dialogue.
The show is not recommended to persons under 16 years of age.
In the Name of the Father is a part of the research project Teatru intim [Intimate Theatre], initiated by Robert Bălan and Elena Vlădăreanu through the Art No More Association. In 2018, three shows will be realized within this project.
