On the 2nd of August a heterogeneous group of artists, theoreticians, curators and researchers will be meeting in person for an extensive exchange situation in the frame of The Museum of Real Estate Development. During this meeting, all contributors will be offering glimpses of their knowledge related to the extended theme. Additionally, there is an attempt to connect two production sites: the space of contemporary art production and activism and the space of academia and activism. These two production sites have in common a shared and overlapping interest in locality, in space and urban space, followed by an extension of this interest towards wider economical, political, social context and processes. Therefore, the subject matter is how global, national and local factors and actors shaped the emergence and advancement of real estate development, always keeping in mind the role of state and of capital.
A series of 21, speed inputs will be given for entire duration of the day, as follows:
George Zamfir, Real estate investment and uneven development: the state as economic actor shaping financialization processes, Enikő Vincze, Inter-urban competition for real estate development between "Silicon Valley" (Cluj) and "El Dorado" (Brașov), Mișa Dumitriu, Restitution, land fragmentation, and urban planning at the fringes of Romania’s capital city. What went wrong?, Vladimir Us, Chisinău Civic Center – beyond the red lines, Mick Wilson, Irish home removal: From the land question to the housing question, Andreas Fogarasi, Nine Buildings, Stripped, Andrei Timofte, Fields of interest and limits of artistic research. The social factory of desire.
Dumitrița Gurău, Mural Art And The Aestheticization Of Public Space. Artistic Alternatives To Urban Kitsch, Sarah Muscalu, The City as an Archive, Delia Bulgaru, Mapping urban transformations through art projects or Observing urban transformations through long-term artistic practices, Mona Vătămanu & Florin Tudor, Persepolis, Cătălin Gheorghe, The Discarded Museum, Cristina Moraru, The Empty Museum: Understanding Cultural Disengagement through Bourdieu’s Field Theory, Preeti Kathuria, Motivation in Contemporary Curatorial Research and Writing.
Sorin Gog, Industrial heritage, urban regeneration and the politics of memory, Ovidiu Țichindeleanu, The City as Intimate Colonization., Ioana Florea, Post-industrial “myths”, STEALTH.unlimited, Цentar for New Cooperative Housing (Belgrade), Škart (Djordje Balmazovic): Working Together, s.a.b.a (Silvia Amancei & Bogdan Armanu), Can one be poor and happy? Can one be poor and an artist? Can one work and be happy? Can one work and be an artist?, Andrei Pripasu, A craftsman's perspective.
On the 3rd of August we will be turning as a group towards a more public situation, where a series of six contributions will be livestreamed on tranzit.ro FB page, as follows:
Ovidiu Țichindeleanu, The Semi-Periphery and the Internal Divide of the Middle Class, Enikő Vincze, The destructive creativity of capitalism - a view from financialized real estate development on the ruins of deindustrialization, Semeneh Ayalew Asfaw, The Making of a capital: the state, urban development and classed subjects in postwar Addis Ababa (1941-1974), Preeti Kathuria, Consequent Land, Mick Wilson, A speculative genealogy of (mostly anglophone) artistic discourses on Real Estate, STEALTH.unlimited, From where we live, the world has drifted away.
