Ania Nowak is interested in love as a political category. Assuming that love can have a critical potential with regards to existing power relations and understanding intimacy she believes that it is a practice of improvisation, empathy and meaning making. In this research, she focuses on theoretical and practical aspects of love as we know it today to think of ways we spend time, collaborate and work together.
Technologies of Love
On the 1st and 2nd of April, Ania Nowak will present her performance "Offering What We Don't Have To Those Who Don't Want It" at the National Dance Center (Bd. Mărășești 80-82), a staging of several aspects from this research. More details about the performance here.
Ania Nowak works choreographing bodies, language and situations. She is currently interested in love as a practice of (not) understanding and dance as a visual phenomenon. Her works have been presented at Sophiensaele and AdK in Berlin, Het Veem in Amsterdam, Nowy Teatr in Warsaw and Kulturhuset in Stockholm, a.o. Ania was artist-in-residence at Zamek Culture Centre in Poznan and co-created a mass choreography for the opening ceremony of a sports event in Baku, Azerbaijan. She received the 2017 Emerging Artists Grant from the Berlin Senat and DanceWeb scholarship at Impuls Tanz Festival 2014 in Vienna.
The event is part of the News from Polska #3 - The Tickler and the Ticklee festival, curated by Larisa Crunțeanu and organized by the Polish Institute in Bucharest.
