Gáspár Miklós Tamás: A túlsó pólus (The Other Pole), Kijárat Publishing House, Budapest, 2023

“A túlsó pólus”, published by Kijárat Publishing, contains the influential political philosophy works of Gáspár Miklós Tamás from the last years of his life, including the essay “Five Advice for the Homeland” and the lecture “Speech on Speech without Fear”. From the 2000s onwards, the philosopher experimented with the “philosophical politics of anti-capitalist radicalism”, and at the end of his life, he explored the Hegelian “other pole”, the possibilities of human social autonomy. The volume is unique in that it includes the author's late writings, his memorable circular letter calling for the founding of the journal Bürök, and his last handwritten work notes.

Gáspár Miklós Tamás: Világvége I. – A korszellem dúdol (The End of the World I. - The Spirit of the Age Hums), Kalligram Publishing House, Budapest, 2023.

The first volume published of Gáspár Miklós Tamás' oeuvre is a selection of texts written between 2000-2010, mainly examining political, cultural and economic phenomena in Hungary. Read as a chronicle of the present, the writings examine the legacy of the Kádár era and the regime change, the terrorist attack of 11 September 2001 and the Iraq war, the promises and scandalous failures of the Medgyessy and Gyurcsány governments, the neoliberal turn of Hungarian socialism and the dismantling of the welfare state, the global economic crisis of 2008 and its management, and the foundations of the System of National Co-operation, showing how post-fascism is spreading in the armoured shell of late capitalism, but also glimpsing the idea of real democracy and communism – on the distant horizon.

Both books will be available for purchase on-site.
The language of the event is Hungarian.
