Since 2010 nothing is the same in Hungary’s political life. Along with the anti-democratic changes a lot of things have changed in the cultural institutional system and in the art system as well.

Dramatic cuts in public funding. Marginalizing the actors of the progressive, subversive cultural scene. Hijacking of the art institutions. Ideological and financial control. Crackdown on civil society. Political control over National Art Fund.

On the other hand: huge investments into the infrastructure. Mass media is in the hands of oligarchs. Money and power go to the loyal art organizations. Parallel institutions are absorbing the resources.

How did the art field react? How did the art community respond? Resistance strategies. Plans for build up something new.
This presentation gives a view on the current cultural political situation in Hungary.
