Theories of Property and Poverty in Modern Philosophy

Coordinated by Dana Domsodi & Alex Cistelecan

Seminar #7

18 March 2018, 4 pm

tranzit. ro/ Cluj
Brassai Samuel St, no 5

The last seminar has delved on the theories of the French physiocrats and especially Quesnay’s Tableau Economique. The discussions have highlighted both the theoretical and historical-ideological aspects of Quesnay’s theory: in other words, on the one hand, the pioneering nature of this first formulation of a theory of value in classical economics, with all its limits, pertaining to the naturalism or organicism of this perspective, which locates the production of value solely in agriculture; on the other hand, the role of instrument in the class struggle of its time, whereby this theory promotes the interests of the big landlords and farmers against those of the commercial and industrial bourgeoisie, deemed instead as mere sterile and unproductive social classes.
