”The flashy 2015 Sexy History Calendar of Silvia Amancei & Bogdan Armanu disrupts historical chronology with the seemingly fashion postures of a young male model, whose role is played by one of the two artists. It is a regular twelve-page wall photo calendar what one may easily use in one owns kitchen. The artists’ subjective selection of historical pictures, one that focuses mainly of the history of the Central and Eastern Europe, is sucked back to contemporaneity. A beautiful male body is overimposed over some of the pictures that used to make the headlines and later became history. Vladimir Lenin dies in January. The Berlin wall falls in November. In June, the Chinese army crushes the students’ protests in Tiananmen Square. Romanians revolt is broadcasted in December. Margaret Thatcher is appointed prime minister in May. The Communist manifesto is published in February. The Capital is published in October. European Union is established in November. To talk about the commodification of historical events becomes superfluous, when historical events become useless clichés.

[…] in the space between dates, months and years, there we find embedded in the complex constellation of history(ies), the struggle of human kind. (s.a.b.a)

Silvia Amancei & Bogdan Armanu’s calendar has the great advantage of not having to change each year. Until much later, the artists will probably be able to publish it yearly, without major changes in the selection of the images, unless maybe a third world war will emerge of the current Ukrainian conflict.”
