On Friday, 28 February 2014, you are invited at tranzit. ro/ Iaşi to take part in the first event organised in 2014, as well as in the inauguration of its new premises on Lăpuşneanu Street, an important central and pedestrian area of Iaşi. At the moment we part with the IAŞITEX office building, we have decided to put ourselves on display on several levels and thus reassess our own activities and histories.

tranzit. ro/ Iaşi is moving from a socialist architectural infrastructure – IAŞITEX – into a different kind of socialist-born infrastructure – a human one – the Artists' Union, Iași branch (UAP in its Romanian acronym). This partnership will go beyond practical aspects and will produce changes in the way both institutional structures operate and approach artistic production. The de facto proximity – we are located basically between the two UAP galleries, “N. Tonitza” and “Th. Pallady”, will entail on the one hand new reasoning processes for our audiences and, on the other hand, a new reading code for the passers-by in the pedestrian area of Lăpuşneanu.

Our new space is located in an old, turn-of-the-century house, in what was originally used as the access yard for horse-drawn carriages. The two-sided arches were the entrance to the house for the owners. The place is a less generous gallery space than the one in IAŞITEX, but it is a more appropriate space for what we plan to do in the next two years: the establishment of the tranzit. ro/ Iași library, a residency programme, a series of talks and book launches and at least two major productions in the public domain. Thanks to the partnership with the UAP, the larger-size shows will have permission to use the Union's galleries when necessary.

The exhibition will focus on infrastructure. It is the equipment that will broadcast signals into the void, each piece carrying the history of the moment it was bought at, each time an art project required its purchase. With this exhibition, tranzit.ro/ Iaşi underscores the fact that it is the art project or the artist that should speak to the viewer and work within the mental or social construction they belong to, rather than a curatorial concept that merely strengthens the curator's status in the economy of exhibition making.

The book that will be launched on this occasion, tranzit.ro/ Iaşi: 2012 – 2013, is more of a handbook about how to use tranzit.ro/ Iaşi. Equally, this book comes like a farewell gift to IAŞITEX, at the moment we break up.

The exhibition will be open between 28 and 24 March 2014, from Tuesday to Friday between 2 and 6 pm, and Sunday between 11 and 4 pm.
