tranzit.ro/ Iași - Visuality degree 0. Exhibition design workshop

On Friday, 12th of April 2013 (16.00-20.00) and on Saturday, 13th of April 2013 (10.00-16.00), tranzit.ro/ Iaşi hosts Visuality degree 0, a workshop of exhibition design. This workshop was initiated and coordinated by Oana Maria Nae following an invitation by tranzit.ro/ Iaşi addressed in November 2012 to the young teachers in the frame of the event Young Artists Teaching Art.

“The Romanian artistic education system preserves a disciplinary separation, inherited from a socialist-modernist structure of thinking and completely enslaved today to immediate profit. Topics such as exhibition design are still missing from the curricula, considered too unattractive for the Romanian market with an underdeveloped artistic infrastructure. Assuming this deficiency, the exhibition design workshop addresses the students from the departments of Art History and Theory and Design from G. Enescu University of Arts and the Faculty of Architecture from Gh. Asachi Technical University in Iasi, offering a space for interaction and for critical reflection on the rhetoric and aesthetics of exhibition spaces and curatorial practices. The workshop will use Cezar Lăzărescu's works to identify and explore modalities of aesthetic thinking that undermine or tame the critical discourse and to recover the political dimension of visuality. By a re-contextualization of these works, it aims to raise questions such as: how can the performative effect of ephemeral interventions be recaptured by recourse to documentation? What results from the spatial re-contextualization of site-specific artistic practices? How can the discourse of institutional critique regain its efficiency by avoiding to replicate forms of authority specific for the place where the exhibition is organized? What is the place of the viewer in the exhibition apparatus?” (Oana-Maria Nae)
