(mis)guided tours

A performative setting by Farid Fairuz

Assistant performer: Maria Mora

Iaşi, 28 and 29 September 2018, 12 am and 4 pm

The way we physically and conceptually perceive the body and our own actions also participates in the way in which the boundaries and relations are established in our negotiation with various objects, ideas, people, spaces, situations, events and actions. In all these negotiations and relationships, communication protocols, hierarchies, boundaries and divisions are established and internalized.

Interested in hybrid structures and constructions, invisible relations between bodies, objects, materials, ideas, and forms, Farid Fairuz proposes perception as the first instrument to work within a mobile device operating in the public space in the form of a guided tour. Participants are at the same time performers and their own observers, in a questioning process of how conceptual and physical boundaries are created between entities.

The tour will access different public spaces and will take up to 2 hours. The number of participants is limited to 9 people per round. Those interested to participate are kindly requested to sign up by filling out this form no later than 14th of September, at 4 pm.

Until he reinvented himself as Farid Fairuz and assumed a fictional biography, the artist Mihai Mihalcea was one of the most active in the field of contemporary dance in Romania, after 1989. He initiated or he has been part of many of the projects that led to the international recognition of Romanian contemporary dance and he played a key role in the establishment of structures and institutions that have become landmarks of this area. Between 2005 and 2013 he has been the director of the National Dance Center in Bucharest.
