TRECUT INCOMOD / INCONVENIENT PAST exerts the ability of contemporary art to offer deep understanding of the social present in close connection with local memory and the global artistic agenda.

August-December 2018

Str. Al. Lăpuşneanu, nr. 7-9

In the conditions in which many central and local institutions in Romania focus on national symbolism, close to the centenary of the Romanian state, the need for a reflexive, transnational and multidisciplinary approach to the national community imagination is a certainty. Existing initiatives of such international projects confirm this interest and provide a framework for cultural co-action in favor of the trans-disciplinary valorisation of artistic practice. All the more so in Iași, in a local context that does not seem to have the resources to produce such an approach, able to avoid easy answers to major questions.

TRECUT INCOMOD / INCONVENIENT PAST proposes a series of cultural interventions that critically examine the transformations of the public sphere and memory policies in relation to the hegemonic character of capitalist discourses today by using various cultural production means: exhibitions and film screenings (Harun Farocki ), artistic research (Minna Henriksson and Jens Haaning), public presentation and theoretical investigation (Marius Babias and Sezgin Boznik).
