On February 27th 2017 the fourth meeting of the seminar A history of economic thought. Capital speaks will take place at tranzit. ro/ Cluj-Napoca. The above-mentioned seminar will deal with the Ricardian labor-theory of value. At the seminar fragments from the classic text, Principles of Political Economy and Taxation, by David Ricardo will be discussed. The reading of this text will be preceded by Isaac Iliych Rubin's interpretation of the Ricardian labor-theory of value such as it appears in his Essays on the Marxist Theory of Value, with a special emphasis on the Rubinian distinction between Ricardian theory of labor value and the Marxist critique of value-form. This Rubinian perspective will be challenged by Joseph Schumpeter's critique of the labor theory of value in Ricardo (with a particular focus on the Schumpeterian argument of Ricardian vice) as this critique appears in the book The History of Economic Analysis.
