Lia & Dan Perjovschi. ONGOING

- exhibition and open workshop.

March 29 - May 14, 2022

tranzit. ro/Cluj, Napoca Street, nr. 16, et.1,
Cluj-Napoca
Visiting schedule: Monday to Friday, 2 - 5 pm.

The project presents works, drawings, fanzines, exhibits, books and images that were created, co-created or integrated in the work of the two artists from the 90's until today. The project from tranzit.ro/Cluj can also be interpreted as a conceptual reconstruction, for the duration of few weeks, of their studio from Bucharest (which moved to Sibiu since 2010).

From 1990 to 2010, Dan and Lia Perjovschi's studio was a meeting point for many generations of students from different fields, young artists, journalists. The dialogue with Dan and Lia had a significant impact on the formation of many of them. The involvement of the two authors in mediating artistic content, in encouraging critical approaches and radical-artistic attitudes – related both to the Romanian society in general and to the local artistic institutions and practices – can be interpreted at first sight as a by-product or a reaction to a historical period in which access to information was scarce. Indeed, in a context in which art institutions in Romania were underdeveloped and schools failed to play a decisive role in training critically oriented artists, creating meeting points and contextualizing artistic approaches was a widespread practice among the actors of the independent scene. But the fact that Dan and Lia's working process and work in progress approach did not stop after the emergence of institutions and the consolidation of various positions in the Romanian art scene shows that the key elements of their artistic practice lies in the nature and scale of their conceptual and creative vision, in finding artistic expressions that combine theory with practice, knowledge with experiment, which in turn provide a vivid and dynamic interpretation of an ongoing present.

Between April 5-10, the two artists will hold a series of workshops and free discussions with interested students and young people.

During the exhibition we will present selections from CAA / CAA, Sens, Lia Perjovschi’s Museum of Knowledge; works and interventions by Dan Perjovschi; prints, collections, artist's books, reference albums, works and charts commenting on political, economic, historical and scientific events;
Also, will be projected summaries from the television show “Totul la vedere” (Everything on view) moderated by the two artists in 2000 on Public Television, and from Atelier Deschis (Open studio) - a communication and dialogue project from 1996.

The collection of fanzines resulting from the workshops that the two artists have been holding for 30 years around the globe will also be presented.

Lia and Dan Perjovschi were born in 1961 in Sibiu, Romania, went to the same General School and High School of Art (1970-1980) and married in 1983. They are living and working in Sibiu and the rest of the world.

The Ongoing project by Dan Perjovschi and Lia Perjovschi is the first event in a series dedicated to artists, collectives and social movements working at the intersection of indirect and non-formal pedagogy.
