Exhibition and research program around the terra nullius of late capitalism, the continuum of atmosphere, from the sea level of the Earth to the interplanetary medium.

Since April 2021, a group of art students of ENSA Bourges have participated in an artistic research project conducted by Ferenc Gróf to work on an encyclopedic attempt to create a "nuancier", a chart diagram starting from the mass and energy which fills the surroundings of the planet Earth, through the interplanetary medium to different atmospheres of our solar system.

These spheres are in the center of vivid climate debates, wild speculations, terraforming ambitions and neo-colonial dreams. As financial and legal frameworks are under development to pursue a new space race and to encourage the acquiring of raw materials necessary also for the green transition, the immensity and complexity of interacting particles, radiation and magnetic energy are not only subjects of science but also of the interests of the venture capital and nation states. “How do science, social attitudes, economics, and politics intersect in the atmosphere?” asked Amy Balkin, whose work The Atmosphere, A Guide (2013/16 tomorrowmorning.net/atmosphere) served as a blueprint for the research program.

With the works of Amy Balkin, Sylvain Bessa, Thomas Bontemps, Claire Chapuis, Solène Charton, Alice Da Rold, Anne Depoutot, Victoria Ferreira, Alix Gallet, Andy Grandillon, Thibaut Gauthier, Nathan Khodr, Anna Koutsaftis, Ludong Lu, Jean-Baptiste Pasquet, Anna Ponchon, Sofía Quintero Hernández, Marion Roger-Hourcade, François Simon.

The event is part of Orbiting Modernity: from the steam engine to galactic debris project developed by tranzit.ro/ Cluj in 2020-2021.
The project’s goal is to investigate the relations between the defining elements of modernity (science and critical rationality, socio-political and economical dynamics, ideological structures) and their impact on the environment and our planet. The project intends to establish a long-term multidisciplinary collaboration between social and natural scientists, philosophers, artists and eco-activists.

Orbiting Modernity: from the steam engine to galactic debris is coordinated by Alex Cistelecan, Dana Domșodi, Attila Szigeti, Attila Tordai-S.

The ATMOSPHERE exhibition can be visited:
-Monday between 2-5 pm.
- Tuesday-Friday between 5-8 pm.

We are waiting for you!

On June 1, 2022 the tranzit.ro/Cluj space is closed.
